PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image sound decoding and reproducing device which can decode a moving image and a detailed still picture and can efficiently use a storing means that is used when image data is decoded. SOLUTION: Image data and sound data of a detailed still picture is read by reader 2 from a recording medium 1 and inputted in an image and sound separator 3. A buffer control part 18a of a controlling means 18 monitors the amount of written image data to the storage capacity which is assigned in an image bit stream area 7-1 of a storing means 5 and makes overflow and underflow of writing not to take place. Image data which is separated in the separator 3 is temporarily stored in the means 5. The image data is decoded by an image decoder 8, the image decoded data that is decoded is temporarily stored in the means 5, and after that, outputted as image display data to an image decoded data output terminal 9. Sound data of the separator 3 is communicated through a sound data communicating means 12 to a sound decoder 14, decoded there, and outputted as sound decoded data to a sound decoded data output terminal 17. |
