PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly display the travel locus of an own vehicle by specifying the position of the vehicle whenever road traffic information is received, and showing the specified position of the vehicle on map information in a superposed state. SOLUTION: A position detecting part 1 computes latitude and longitude, using an artificial satellite, and complements the results of the computation, using a gyro or the like. A ROM drive part 2 reads out information from map database 21 recorded on a CD-ROM or the like. Also, a road and inter-vehicle distance information system (VICS) receiver 3 receives road traffic information in a surrounding area from VICS transmitters installed on the road. A control part 4 specifies the position of a vehicle at the point whenever the receiver 3 receives the surrounding road traffic information, and causes the specified position to be displayed in such a state as superposed on map information indicated with a display part 5. According to this construction, a travel locus can be shown on a display screen by use of minimum positional data, and a linked road or an intersection can be specified, because of the use of the positional data from VICS information, thereby enhancing reliability. |
