PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material based on a poly(γ-glutamic acid), free from hygroscopicity, having softness, stable over a long period and suitable for forming a film, a membrane, etc. SOLUTION: This poly(γ-glutamic acid) salt complex is composed of a poly(γ- glutamic acid) salt having a recurring unit (A) and a compound having a site capable of bonding to the carboxy anion of the poly(γ-glutamic acid) salt through a hydrogen bond. In the formula A, X is an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or ammonium. Suitable examples of the compound capable of forming a hydrogen bond are chitosan quaternary amine and urea. The complex can be produced by adding a water-soluble salt of an alkali metal, etc., to an aqueous solution of a poly(γ-glutamic acid) to obtain an aqueous solution of a poly(γ-glutamic acid) salt and adding the compound capable of forming hydrogen bond to the obtained aqueous solution.
