PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel octane derivative which comprises a specific 2- azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane derivative and can produce an" optically active diol and amino alcohol useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines or agrochemicals as an optical resolution agent. SOLUTION: This compound is a novel 2-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane derivative represented by formula I (Ar is an aryl), typically 8β-hydroxy-8α-(β- naphthylmethyl)-2-(4-pyridyl)-2-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane, which is useful as an optical resolution agent to produce optical active diol and amino alcohol which is used as an intermediate for medicine or agrochemical. The objective compound is prepared by allowing a racemic compound of formula II to react with the compound of the formula: ArCH2 M (Ar is an aryl; M is Li or Mg halide), debenzylation of the product to a compound of formula III, optical resolution after the salt formation with an optically active organic acid, followed by reaction of the optically active product with 4-halogenopyridine. |
