PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new technique which, as compared with the prior art technique, can stably produce SNG (natural gas substitute) in a smaller apparatus at a lower cost in a simpler manner. SOLUTION: This process for producing a fuel gas comprises producing a fuel gas from a 2 C or higher alcohol or a water/alcohol mixture as a starting material. In this case, (1) the starting material is catalytically decomposed in the presence of a supported catalyst in a reactor R-1 while maintaining the temp. at 100 deg.C or above and a pressure high enough to maintain a liq. phase to produce methane. (2) Heat energy is recovered from the methane-contg. product. (3) The methane-contg. product after the heat recovery is heat exchanged with the starting material. (4) The methane-contg. product after the heat exchange is cooled and subjected to gas-liq. separation to obtain a methane- contg. gas and treated water. (5) The methane-contg. gas is decarboxylated. (6) The heating value of the methane gas is then regulated. |
