摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a magnetic head hematite (α-Fe2 O3 ) material which is excellent in CSS(contact-start-stop) characteristics and processability. SOLUTION: 0.01 to 0.08wt.% of S is added to Fe2 O3 as a main component, whereby an obtained sintered compact is improved in processability. S-containing Fe2 O3 material powder is ground into fine powder through a wet-type ball mill where SiO2 -containing Al2 O3 balls are used, the fine powder is sintered into a sintered compact more enhanced in processability. When the sintered compact is processed into a slider, the slider is almost free from chipping, excellent in processability, and kept high in CSS characteristics.
