FIELD: polymer chemistry. SUBSTANCE: halogen-containing polyether has structural units having formula <EMI ID=0.146 HE=18 WI=66 TI=CHI> where a,b, c,d,e and f are integer from 0 to 25 and they obey equations <EMI ID=0.147 HE=3 WI=36 TI=CHI> and <EMI ID=0.148 HE=3 WI=21 TI=CHI> where R<SB>1</SB> is fluorine, iodine, C<SB>3</SB>F<SB>7</SB>O; R<SB>2</SB> is lower alkyl optionally comprising chlorine or fluorine, lower alkyloxy optionally comprising fluorine. Polyether may be obtained by polymerization of 2,2,3,3-tetrafluorosectane ring together with its decyclization, the process is carried out in the presence of initiator of polymerization. Thus polyether having structural units with formula -(CH<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>CF<SB>2</SB>O)<SB>a</SB> (where a is as mentioned above) is obtained. If it is necessary then polyether is affected by fluoridation and/or by chlorination. EFFECT: improved quality. 6 cl, 7 dwgy
