PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smooth end faces of plates constituting a chain, reduce sliding resistance between the plates and a guide mechanism, suppress abrasion of shoes of the guide mechanism, and continuously smooth the end faces of the plates after they are assembled into the chain. SOLUTION: During a processing process of providing the chain 1 assembled with the press-punched plates among multiple sprockets provided in a zigzag and proof-processing the chain 1, the end faces of the plates are smoothed by a smoothing mechanism 5 provided on a chain traveling path while the chain is traveling.
