FIELD: oil and gas production industry. SUBSTANCE: this relates to equipment used in subsurface repair of oil and gas wells. Its purpose is to catch string of pump-compressor pipes and hold them suspended during round-trip operations. Pipe elevator has body with shackle, turnable segment-type grips and control handle with locks. Segment-type grips are provided with supporting cams which in closed position rest on control handle made in the form of two L-shaped pivotally connected movable tie-rods. Control handle is provided with two locks which are pivotally interconnected by spring-loaded lever of rocker type. Locks are installed in vertical dumb holes in body with dumb bottom located above locks. Reliability of pipe elevator is achieved mainly due to preventing uncontrolled release of lock.
