Personal light for e.g. aircraft

The light includes a fibre optic cable with one end close to a light source (32) and a free end which can be manipulated by the user and emits light. The free end is readily detachable for replacement. The fibre optic cable is incorporated into a fibre optic cable harness (36) with common light receiving end (38) and a number of free light emitting ends (42-46) which correspond to a number of discrete areas to be illuminated. The extension cables (54-58) have a sheath, from which the fibre optic cable is removable. The fibre is a large core polymer fibre.
