ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY TO PREVENT INADVERTENT PRODUCT DISCHARGE UPON INSTALLATION ON STEM

An actuator assembly (2) for an aerosol container (13) containing a product to be dispensed. The actuator assembly (2) comprises a base (6) having a through bore extending therethrough and a mechanism for securing the base member to a mounting cup (24) of the aerosol container (13). An actuator (4) is supported in the through bore of the base and is slidable along a longitudinal axis thereof via a pair of mating bearing (36 and 38) and guide surfaces. The through bore contains a pair of opposed stop members (40) which permanently retain the actuator (4) within the through bore. The actuator (4) is allowed to slide within the through bore, during initial installation of the actuator assembly (2) onto the aerosol container (13), to prevent the actuator (4) from inadvertently discharging the product contents.
