Combustion pipe flange seal

The centre layer (1) of the seal is made of soft rubber as compared with the outer layers (2,3), permanently joined to the centre layer, which are made of soft rubber containing carbon fibres. The Shore A hardness of the centre layer (1) is 45-60 and its thickness l.5-2.5 mm. The outer layers contain 2-3% carbon fibre (4) each in relation to the soft rubber mass and the carbon fibres themselves are 0.2-3 mm long and 2-10 micron thick. Te Shore A hardness of the outer layers is 55-70 and their thickness 1-1.5 mm. Preferred usage is as a flange seal for stack gas desulphurising plant. The respective layers are vulcanised to one another to form firm join and typically serve as flange seals (6,7) on tubes (8,9). The soft and hard rubber protection (10,11) for the pipes and ther flanges necessarily produce problematical transitions (12) which the specified seals protect against high pressure load etc in service.
