The torque sensor has first and second coaxial rotating shafts (2,3) joined by a torsion rod (4), a cylindrical component(8) made of an electrically conducting, non-magnetic material and integrated into the second rotating shaft so as to enclose the first rotating shaft's outer surface, part of which is magnetic. The enclosing surface has an axial groove(3A). The degree of overlap of a window (8a,8b) in the cylindrical part and the groove varies with the relative position of the shafts. The torque generated by the shafts is determined from the change of impedance of a coil (10,11) enclosing a section of the cylindrical part. A yoke associated with the coil is designed to reduce impedance changes caused by magnetic field irregularities.
