The product is preformed from sheet metal with thin walls and can be shaped to form a finished part. A wall area of the finished part is reinforced with a backing piece (4,6). The backing piece is securely fixed onto a continuous wall area of the shaped product. The product may be a tube or other closed hollow section (3). The backing piece may be adhered, soldered, welded or riveted in place.
