A palate split screw, has two members (1, 2) whose separation can be adjusted by a spindle (3), an actuating member (4) between the members (1, 2), and two threaded sections with opposing thread directions. Guide members (10, 11) are in contact with the palate members, and prevent rotation. Retention arms are located on the palate members. The inner threads are located in two sleeves (14, 15), and the sleeves are located in a cut-out (8). The sleeves are surrounded by spiral springs (17, 18) which are held by stop members. Use - The arrangement is used to widen upper jaws which are too narrow. Advantage - The screw is simple to use and requires less adjustments.
