The method involves mounting a rigid blade (2) and a rotating cutting tool (3) on a support frame (1). The cutting tool is rotated by cutting of the wire (W) which is guided between the blade and cutting tool. A certain amount of play (S) is allowed for between the blade and a cutting edge (11) of the tool, which amounts to no more than half the diameter of the wire. The wire cutting device comprises the blade, a wire guide opening (5) and a cutting edge (10) which is provided on the inner side of the open end of the wire guide opening.
