Bias inherently associated with random number generation using physical sources such as noise diodes, Geiger counters, or cascaded oscillators (figure 2), is removed by smoothing the physically-derived random number with a pseudo-random number. Smoothing may be performed by an EXOR gate or by addition. The generator may be used to improve encryption in a smart card. |
