摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make possible the melting operation of a DC arc furnace with a weak AC current network in a method in which an inexpedient reactive power fluctuation which is produced during the operation of the DC arc furnace is compensated by using a reactive power regulator without using a special compensation reactance. SOLUTION: A DC arc furnace 8 is operated with at least two cathodes 7 and 7', and respective current regulators 14 and 14' are connected to rectifiers 5 and 5' respectively for control. The 2nd current regulator 14' only is connected to a reactive power regulator 23 for operation. The distances (d) of the respective cathodes 7 and 7' are controlled by individual electrode position regulators and electrode regulators. As the 2nd electrode regulator 17' only is connected to the reactive power regulator 23 for operation, the reactive power is regulated by one electrode system S2 only.
