PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To biologically, efficiently and easily obtain the subject hydroxide by adding a steroid compound to microorganisms belonging to the genus Amycolata or Sphingomonas and capable of hydroxylating the 25-site of the steroid compound or a culture fluid of the microorganisms. SOLUTION: This 25-site-hydroxide of a steroid compound is obtained biologically, efficiently and easily by adding the steroid compound except cholesterol (e.g. 1α,3β-dihydroxy-5,7-cholestadiene) to the microbial cells of microorganisms belonging to the genus Amycolata [e.g. Amycolata saturnea A-1246 strain (FERM BP-5544)] or the genus Sphingomonas (e.g. Sphingomonas parapaucimobilis IFO15100 strain) each having ability to hydroxylate the 25-site of the steroid compound or to a culture fluid of the microbial cells to convert the hydrogen atom bound to the 25-site carbon atom of the compound to hydroxyl group. |
