PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the simultaneous execution of both the reading of a manuscript and its printing processing by a method wherein scanners are installed by staggering from the position in the main scanning direction of a print head onto the side opposite to the installation side of the print head on a carrier. SOLUTION: A print head 53a is provided at the middle part to the main scanning direction of a carrier 51 and, at the same time, the reading windows 52b and 52b of a scanner part 52 are provided at the positions staggered to the main scanning direction from the print head 53a by every distance of about (β). The manuscript is read with the reading windows 52b on the same direction side as the driving direction of the carrier 51. Accordingly, the printing processing to a recording paper delays by the time corresponding to the distance of about (β) from the reading process of the manuscript. As a result, the data processing of an image data produced through the reading of the manuscript is fully executed during this delayed time. Thus, even in a printer, in which printing is executed by running the carrier to the main scanning direction, both the reading of a manuscript and its printing processing can be executed simultaneously during the running of a carrier at good printing positional accuracy.
