PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of a correction operation by detecting an area with the high possibility of failing in the character segmentation of a post-process inside an extracted document area as an irregular area based on the layout of document images. SOLUTION: The document images are obtained by an image input means 101, the image input means 101 is a scanner or a fax, etc., for instance and images can be obtained from a different equipment through a network as well. Then, the column setting of the inputted document images is specified by a column setting/specifying means 102 or automatically judged. In such a manner, one-column setting, two-column setting or unfixed-column setting, etc., is decided. Then, the document area is extracted by an area extraction means 103. Then, an irregular area judgement means 104 detects the irregular area with the possibility that row segmentation is difficult in the extracted sentence area. Further, a result display means 105 displays the sentence area extracted in the area extraction means 103 and the irregular area judgement means 104 along with source images. |
