摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance storing capability and handling capability and increase the initial activity by treating powdered hydrogen absorbing alloy with a solution containing the specified unsaturated compound. SOLUTION: Powdered hydrogen absorbing alloy is treated with a solution containing an unsaturated compound having 5 or more conjugatedπbonds in a molecule. The hydrogen absorbing alloy is represented by (La)x R1-x (NiM)y . (Wherein R is at least one selected from Ce, Pr, Nd, and M is at least one selected from Mn, Al, Co, Ti, Fe, Zr, and x is 0.2-1, y is 4.0-6.0). The hydrogen absorbing alloy is powdered, the powder is immersed in a solution containing a high conjugated unsaturated compound, stirred, then dried, the hydrogen absorbing alloy powder obtained is kneaded with a binder, paste obtained is applied to the surface of a conductive supporting body, and dried. A negative electrode having high initial activity is obtained.
