PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the mechanical strength of a thermistor by forming electrodes containing at least copper and alkali glass on the external surface of a thermistor element. SOLUTION: An internal electrode 1 composed mainly of Pd is printed on the green sheet face of a thermistor material composed of Mn, Ni and Cu, and a green sheet is laminated thereon. Thereafter, an internal electrode 1 is printed with its position shifted from that of the previous one, and a green sheet is formed again to form a laminate block. The laminate block is cut into a specified shape and is fired to obtain a thermistor element 2. After sintering, the thermistor 2 is chamfered to expose the internal electrodes 1 at both end faces. Electrode paste is applied in such a manner that it is connected with the internal electrodes 1 at both the end faces. After drying, baking is performed in a nitrogen atmosphere at a temperature of 750-900 deg.C to form external electrodes 4. The said electrode paste contains copper powder of 3±1μm and lithium borosilicate with a softening temperature of 570-630 deg.C. After the formation of the external electrodes 4, Ni plate films 5 and solder plate films 6 are formed.
