PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both a detector of a microbe suitably used for detecting the microbe causing food poisoning, etc., in, for example, a canteen, an eating house, a grocer or a home, and a method for using the detector. SOLUTION: This detector of a microbe has the first outer packaging 12 having a space part 12 for culturing the microbe therein and a cylindrical shape having the bottom, the second outer packaging 13 having a microbe-collecting tool 15 detachably arranged on the opening terminal part of the first outer packaging 12 and capable of freely inserting to and extracting from the space part 12a and a vessel-destroying tool 14 protruding in the reverse direction of the microbe-collecting tool 15, an operating member 16 arranged at the opening of the second packaging 13 opposite to the opening terminal in the first outer packaging 12 side and capable of advancing or retreating to the vessel-destroying tool 14, and a vessel 17 arranged between the operating member 16 and the first outer packaging 12, and capable of being housed in the second packaging 13 and destroyed by the vessel-destroying tool 14. The vessel 17 has a culturing liquid 17a including an indicator for detecting the change in culturing and sealed in the vessel 17, and is positioned at the position with which the vessel- destroying tool 14 is brought into contact by operating the operating member 16 to move in the direction getting near to the first outer packaging 12.
