PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an apparatus for producing an optical fiber preform which does not exert adverse crossinfluence on burners and traversing mechanisms even if the number of these burners and mechanisms increases. SOLUTION: Plural burners 6a, 6b, 6c are disposed to face each other on the outer periphery of a target 1 which keeps rotating around its axial center. These burners 6a to 6c are respectively traversed along the longitudinal direction of the target 1 by the respective traversing mechanisms 7a, 7b, 7c, by which the glass particulates formed in the flames of the respective burners are deposited on the outer periphery of the target 1, thereby the porous optical fiber preform 14 is produced. Traversing mechanism housing chambers 17a, 17b, 17c for housing the respective traversing mechanisms 7a to 7c are disposed independently of a reaction chamber 15 housing the target 1 and the respective burners 6a to 6c. |
