PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perfectly and automatically accumulate mails to unload the accumulated mails. SOLUTION: A mail accumulation apparatus having some flow forming units 27a-27d is equipped with a pair of electromotive belts 35, 44 mutually overlapped at contact points Z where the inlets of the flow forming units are formed and a sensor 63 detecting that mails pass to enter the flow forming units to operate various belts and moving the mails held on various belts from the inlets Z of the flow forming units to the outlets 68 thereof in a separation step S1 and emitting a signal separating the front edges of mails by a constant distance to form a group Ibs of overlapped mails. Some conveyor belt devices 73, 86, 93 of this apparatus have the inlets 71 communicating with the outlets of the respective flow forming units and receive the group Ibs of mails at the inlets 71 thereof and subsequently send the group of mails to the outlets of the conveyor belt devices to form an accumulated unit.
