PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance activity and lengthen life by coating with a hydrogen storage alloy the surface or the vicinity of platinum or platinum alloy fine particles on carried catalyst particles formed by dispersing and carrying platinum or platinum alloy on conductive carbon powder carrier. SOLUTION: By covering with a hydrogen storage alloy the surface or the vicinity of platinum or platinum alloy fine particles dispersed and carried on conductive carbon powder carrier a hydride is produced by the reaction with hydrogen in a fuel gas, and the selective diffusion and concentration of hydrogen are performed in the hydride. As a result, the oxidation reaction of hydrogen is promoted in platinum or platinum alloy fine particles, and catalytic activity is enhanced. When the hydrogen storage alloy exists on the surface of platinum or platinum alloy fine particles, effect of CO poisoning on the oxidation reaction of hydrogen is eliminated, catalytic activity is furthermore enhanced. An anode catalyst for fuel cell with high activity and long life is obtained. |
