PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cleave a G-U base pair in an RNA specific with respect to site and to detect a G-U fluctuation base pair by bonding a flavin derivative of a photosensitizer capable of being subjected to photooxidation reaction with an RNA and a bivalent metal cation to the RNA and irradiating the bonded substance with light rays. SOLUTION: In a method for cleaving an RNA molecule containing at least one G-U fluctuation base pair at a site of at least one G-U fluctuation base pair of the RNA molecule, (A) a flavin derivative of a photosensitizer such as flavin mononucleotide, lumiflavin or riboflavin capable of being subjected to photooxidation reaction with an RNA molecule by irradiation with light rays and (B) a bivalent metal cation such as Mg<2+> , Ca<2+> , Sr<2+> , Ba<2+> , Zn<2+> or Cd<2+> or its salt are bonded to the RNA molecule to prepare a mixture, which is irradiated with light rays to specifically cleave the RNA molecule at a site of at least one G-U fluctuation base pair of the RNA molecule. |
