A device for measuring gas pressure in a metal smelting furnace has a tube (4) extending through a hole (5) in the furnace wall (2) to reach the inside of the furnace. This hole in the furnace wall contains a gas-tight seal. A pressure gauge (3) is linked to the inside of the tube via a hole (7) in the tube wall. A piston-cylinder unit (8) has a cylinder (9) extending downwards into the end of the tube located outside the furnace. The gap between the cylinder and this end of the tube is made gastight. The piston (10) in the unit can be received by the tube for cleaning the tube. The piston can be moved between the end of the tube inside the furnace and a position away from the hole in the tube wall leading to the pressure gauge. The shape of the piston allows a gap (13) to be left between it and the inside of the furnace to allow gas to flow into the pressure gauge, even if the piston is positioned between the end of the tube inside the furnace and the hole in the tube wall. |
