This method coats surfaces, decorating them with coloured powders. In the new method the surface is treated (e.g. by applying electrostatic charge) and a layer of powdered background colouring is applied. The surface is heated to below the baking temperature of the powder, sufficiently however, to fix it to the surface. One or more motif colour powders are applied, in the pattern of the motif. Now the surface is baked over a time and temperature profile, which fixes the powder. Pref. before applying the motif powder, a further layer of background colour powder is applied and heated, a process which may be further repeated. The surface is metal, metal alloy, wood, glass, ceramic or plastic. The covered surface is heated to 75-90[deg]C. The surface is heated on a line, passing before the heat source, or an ultraviolet source. Heating panels may be used, or heat lamps. In a modification the powder is coated and heated; to be coated with a suspension of powder in a slow drying liq.. The liq. is an acrylic cpd.. The liq. is slow-evaporating. In the interests of decoration, various selective removal (or redistribution) techniques may be applied, e.g. suction, wiping, wet wiping, manual or mechanical tooling. A silkscreen stencil may be used to apply the powdered coating in the decorative pattern.
|
