The liquid crystal compositions contain, as a first component, at least one compound expressed by either formula (I-1) or (I-2), and as a second component, at least one compound expressed by any one of formulas (II-1) to (II-7) <IMAGE> (I-1) <IMAGE> (I-2) <IMAGE> (II-1) <IMAGE> (II-2) <IMAGE> (II-3) <IMAGE> (II-4) 7) wherein n is an integer of 1 to 10, Z1 represents -CH2CH2- or a single bond, X represents F, OCF3 or CF3, and Y represents H or F.
