A contaminated area is sealed by a sheet of canvas (5) which is hung parallel to the support. The canvas is held in position under tension in an area (1) below of the support (2) which is likely to cause pollution. A mass of expanded polystyrene foam balls is sprayed into the area (1) which form an insulating, dust proof barrier (3). A second sheet of canvas is positioned parallel to the first sheet of canvas forming a sealed layer of air (4). The sheets of canvas are held in position by extruded sections (8) with grooves (10, 11) to hold the canvas and a member for attaching it to the support (12). The layer of air is analysed continuously through an air intake linked to an analyser.
