Solutions for combating chronic renal insufficiency by perfusion or dialysis comprise sodium bicarbonate and a water-soluble calcium salt that has been adjusted to a stable pH by the presence of CO2. Also claimed is gas-impermeable packaging for the above solutions which may be heat sterilised and which has two compartments separated by a barrier that is easily broken.
