The electrically motorised furniture drive is in the form of an individual or double drive. It has one or two control spindles (15) each driven by a drive (11). A spindle nut is positioned on the spindle(s) (15). This cooperates with a steering handle fixed on the shaft of a shaft of an adjustable piece of furniture. The nut enables the drive connection between the drive pin of the drive and the spindle(s) to be moved away.A first coupling plate (13) is fixedly located on the drive pin (12) of the drive (11). A second coupling plate (17) is wedged for rotation on the end of the spindle (15). The first and second coupling plates (13,17) are brought into connection by a coupling drum (18) which is guided in the axial direction. The first coupling plate (13) and the coupling drum (18) have take up surfaces which can be brought into engagement. These are drive (11), the coupling drum (18) is driven synchronously by the first coupling plate (13). With an adjustment of the furniture in the same direction, by hand, the drum rotates when the first coupling plate is stationary
