The power converter has one section to rectify an AC input using PWM control with a number of switch sections, another section to invert the DC into an AC output again using PWM control with a number of switch sections, a common section working with the first section for rectification and with the second section for inversion, plus PWM control sections for the first and second sections. Each of the sections comprises at least a pair of switch sections of the upper and lower arms. One AC input terminal is directly connected to one AC output terminal to make a common phase available. The common phase has a connecting point with the upper arm switch section and the lower arm switch section.
