The invention concerns a method of air navigation or steering assistance for guiding a moving vehicle towards a target whose exact position is not known a priori, in particular a moving target. It is suggested that the moving vehicle and the target use satellite positioning receivers, but, instead of transmitting the position computed by the target to the vehicle, only the pseudo-range and the pseudo-velocity measurements between the target and the satellites, together with the identification of the satellites used are transmitted (by radio) to the vehicle. The method consists in periodically carrying out pseudo-range and pseudo-velocity and measuring time measurements with the moving vehicle receiver, determining in the vehicle the p satellites used both by the vehicle and the target, subtracting, for each of the p satellites, the pseudo-range and the pseudo-velocity measurements determined by the vehicle and those received from the target, and computing on the basis of these subtractions position and relative speed vectors in a landmark between the vehicle and a targeted point linked with the target. The invention is useful for aeroplanes or helicopters alighting on the decks of ships, rendezvous in the air, at sea or in space, homing vehicles onto a marker, etc.
