A workpiece heating (especially hardening or soldering) device, with an inductor (1) supplied with current by a frequency generator, includes a field shaping element (5) preferably of ferromagnetic material, especially a ferrite. Also claimed is a inductor which is used for heating (especially hardening or soldering) workpieces and which has the above design. Further claimed is a method of heating (especially hardening or soldering) workpieces using the above inductor.
