DISPLAY AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

A display comprising a composite multilayer film (18) including films (5-7) and liquid crystal layers (8-11) alternately built up, wherein a voltage is applied to the composite multilayer film (18) to control the light reflectance of the multilayer film (18). The refractive index nLC1( lambda n) in the direction of the major axis and the refractive index nLC2( lambda n), in the direction of the minor axis of the liquid crystal used for the liquid crystal layers (8-11) for light (15, 16) having a predetermined wavelength ( lambda n), and the refractive indices nF1( lambda n) and nF2( lambda n) in the mutually orthogonal X- and Y-directions of the films (5-7) for the light (15, 16) having the predetermined wavelength ( lambda n) satisfy the following two conditions at least for a pair of a film and a liquid crystal layer which are adjacent to each other: (1) nLC1( lambda n) >/= nF1( lambda n) or nLC1( lambda n) APPROX nF1( lambda n); (2) nLC2( lambda n) APPROX nF2( lambda n) and nLC1( lambda n) > nLC2( lambda n) and nF1( lambda n) > nF2( lambda n).
