A cordless plug-in switched receptacle comprises a first housing having a notional axis and a pair of axially opposed end faces, with electrical prongs projecting outwardly from one of the end faces; electrical socket openings are formed in the other of the end faces, with underlying electrical contacts to form a receptacle. The first housing includes a journal surface adjacent each of the faces. A second generally hollow housing is defined in part by a pair of opposed portions, each of which has an opening therethrough forming a bearing for respective ones of the journal surfaces, with the journal surfaces and the associated bearings forming cooperating thrust bearings serving to capture the first housing axially within said second housing, and permit relative rotation of the housings. The prongs are operatively interconnected to the contacts by a switching circuit contained within the second housing, which may conveniently be actuated by a timer. In use, the housings are rotated so as to orientate the switching receptacle to a desired position for plugging into a convenience outlet.
