<p>A checkout facility has a selectively raisable and lowerable goods receiving platform 30 downstream from an input conveyor 20. The arrangement allows shopping boxes 100 to be received from the input conveyor 20 and thereafter lowered to allow the operator to readily remove the goods from the box for scanning/checking out. Preferably the scanner is arranged downstream from the platform 30 and an output conveyor 22 is arranged downstream from an operator station (18, Fig 1).
