The invention concerns a multimode waveguide laser (1, 2, 3, 5) which is characterized by the fact that the waveguide's cutoff wavelength (1) is smaller than the smallest wavelength of the emission spectrum of the waveguide laser. Advantageously, the waveguide laser and the diode laser (6) in the wavelength area of the waveguide laser emission are optically uncoupled, thus making the diode laser pumped waveguide laser specially suitable for intra-cavity spectroscopy.
