A karaoke device includes a processor (1) which retrieves digital audio data from a memory (2). A synthesizer (3) generates stereophonic audio output corresponding to the audio data. A converter (4) converts the audio output into an analog audio signal and receives an external voice signal from a microphone (43). The converter (4) mixes the audio signal and the voice signal and generates a mixed audio signal output. A transmitter (5) includes a controller which receives and converts lyrics data and video data from an image memory to an analog video signal and to generate character images based on the character data and corresponding to the lyrics data. A transmitter (58) transmits wirelessly the video signal and the audio output for reception by a television set. The synthesizer (3) includes a processor (30) which receives and processes the audio data from the processor (1) to obtain sound data. A processor (31) processes the sound data to generate the audio output which is received by the converter (4).
