An apparatus and a method for removing noise from a digital image are provided to realize an accurate image by removing noise through a filter only if the noise is included in image data. A noise estimating unit(210) filters image data received from the outside, and estimates whether noise is included in the image data. A noise determining unit(220) is connected to the noise estimating unit(210). If the noise estimating unit(220) estimates that the noise is included in the image data, the noise determining unit(220) filters the image data and determines whether the image data correspond to edge data, and determines whether the noise is included in the image data according to the determined result. An average filter processing unit(230) is connected to the noise determining unit(220). If the noise determining unit(220) determines that the noise is included in the image data, the average filter processing unit(230) receives the image data and removes the noise from the image data through an average filter.
