Vehicle passenger side impact protection

The inner padding at the sides of a vehicle, for protection of the occupants on an impact collision, is formed by an airbag (9) located near the window. When activated, it expands between the head of the occupant and the window pane. The window pane (15) is a compound glass structure, with increased bending strength. The window pane core layer (18) is of an impact resistant polymer such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with a thermoplastic adhesive layer on both sides of it of polyvinyl butyral or polyurethane.
