A dispersion of fine solid particles having good production suitability, good dispersion stability and high spectral absorption, which is obtained by pulverizing an aqueous slurry of a dye represented by general formula (II) in the presence of a polyalkylene oxide represented by general formula (I-a) or (I-b): <IMAGE> (I-a) <IMAGE> (I-b) wherein a and b each represents a value of 5 to 500.D-(X)y(II)wherein D represents a compound residue having a chromophore, X represents dissociative hydrogen or a group having dissociative hydrogen, and y is an integer of 1 to 7. An embodiment that a compound represented by general formula (I) is present together with the polyalkylene oxide of general formula (I-a) or (I-b) is also disclosed.
