<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix liquid crystal display unit having an ultrahigh resistance value in combination with a wide operating temperature range, a short switching time and a low threshold voltage by including a specific nematic liquid crystal mixture therein. SOLUTION: This matrix liquid crystal display unit comprises two planar parallel supporting plates forming a cell together with a frame, an accumulated nonlinear type element for switching individual picture elements on the supporting plates and a nematic liquid crystal mixture having a positive dielectric anisotropy in the cell and >=10<12>Ωcm value of resistance at 20 deg.C. The liquid crystal mixture comprises >=10wt.% liquid crystal component containing (A) one or more compounds having >+1.5 dielectric anisotropy and (B) one or more compounds, etc., represented by formulas I to III (R is a <=9C n-alkyl or an n-alkenyl; Y and Z are each H or F; X is F, Cl, CF3 , OCF3 or OCHF2 ) as a substrate and has a nematic phase range of >=60 deg.C, 30mPa.s maximal viscosity at 20 deg.C and <=8 average permittivity mean value ofε.</p> |
