PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee uniform energy reduction across a long deformation stroke by journalling a steering spindle in the radial direction of an automobile in the adjacent to the steering spindle part deformable in a side of receiving impact by a sliding bearing. SOLUTION: When a large axial pressure is applied on a steering wheel 2 in colliding a top spindle part 4 makes a front deformed part 9 in the end to be bent inward and incorporates a deformable steering spindle part 7 which converts collision energy into deformation energy and is formed of a bent pipe. The top steering spindle part 7 is radially supported by a sliding bearing 10 and its bottom end is axially and radially supported by a fixed bearing 11. This constitution can uniformly reduce collision energy for a long period in colliding. |
