PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject agent having a high antibacterial activity, effective to periodontal bacteria, dental caries bacteria and MRSA and also high in safety by including a hydrophilic organic solvent extract of a bark of mulberry tree as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This natural antibacterial agent contains a hydrophilic organic solvent extract of a bark of a plant belonging to the genus Morus e. g. a new compound such as a flavonid compound of the formula. As the extracting method, the method of defatting the bark of the plant belonging to the genus Morus with a hydrophobic solvent (preferably a hydrocarbons, an aromatic hydrocarbon, etc.) and then extracting the bark by a hydrophilic organic solvent (preferably a lower fatty acid ester, a lower alcohol, and an ether) is cited. Thus, an antibacterial agent having a high safety to a human body and useful for the prevention and treatment of a periodontal disease and a caries of a tooth, and also the prevention of an intra-hospital infection, is provided. |
