PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for an output with a maximum level at all times by gradually increasing a transmission signal level from a minimum value up to a maximum value at a transmitter side, sending a signal with a code of a signal level at transmission added thereto, allowing a receiver side to store a minimum value of the signal level and a saturated maximum level and selecting an optimum level. SOLUTION: A transmitter side transmitter 3 and a receiver side receiver 4 are connected to an optical fiber cable 2 in the optical communication system 1 and data are sent/received. The transmitter side gradually increases the level of a transmitted signal from a minimum value to a maximum value and provides a code denoting a signal level at transmission to a test pattern and sends the resulting pattern to the receiver side. The receiver side stores a minimum value of a level of a reception signal and a saturated maximum level, selects an optimum level and conducts a series of proccessing that the optimum level of the transmitter side and the level of the transmission signal at that time are provided to a predetermined test pattern and the resulting pattern is sent to the transmitter side for a preset period periodically. |
