PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based lubricant for cold plastic working of a metallic material, having the lubricity equal to or higher than that of a conventional product even in an amount of a generally small amount of a lubricating film and long liquid life and capable of reducing dust produced at the time of performing the cold plastic working. SOLUTION: This water-based lubricant for cold plastic working of a metallic material comprises (A) an alkali metallic salt of a dimer acid or a trimer acid of a 10-24C unsaturated fatty acid having one or more double bonds and water. In this case, >0 and <=95wt.% of (A) the alkali metallic salt of the dimer acid or trimer acid can be replaced by (B) an alkali metallic salt of a 10-24C saturated fatty acid.
